The Canvas
Each Belted Tote begins with an authentic L.L.Bean Boat and Tote in vintage or like-new condition, carefully washed and prepared before construction begins. Every tote is hand-washed and scrubbed as part of the transformation process, reaching the right softness and character before a single cut is made. Subtle variations in canvas, stitching, or texture are part of what makes each bag individual, adding a quality that cannot be manufactured.
