Every piece carries a story

North & Knox was born from years of building other people’s products, and a simple realization: the best luxury isn’t about perfection. It’s about character.

The name is my life, plain and simple. I’m originally from Knoxville, Tennessee. Knoxville is home. Now I live in Columbus, Ohio, north of Knox. My initials are NK. The name holds where I am from, where I am, and who I am..

I’m Nichole, and I’ve spent two decades in apparel product development. Technical design, private label strategy, fit corrections, the whole process. I know what goes into making something well, and I know what it costs to cut corners. But I got tired of the sameness. Your bag shouldn’t look like everyone else’s.

How it actually started

North & Knox didn’t start as a business. In September 2025, I made a Belted Tote for myself in Blue Jay and Mint and posted the video. People started ordering. Then I went viral, and my clients didn’t give me much choice.

Why the Boat & Tote

I’ve always loved the Boat & Tote. It’s honest, functional, nearly indestructible. But what if you could take that heritage and transform it into something singular?

That’s North & Knox.

Every bag starts with an authentic piece, most often a pre-loved L.L.Bean tote, sometimes a brand-new one, sometimes another classic I’ve hunted down. If it needs washing, I wash it. If it doesn’t, I don’t. Then I take it apart, rework the structure, add elevated hardware, and rebuild it into a one-of-a-kind piece. The worn canvas, the faded stitching, the little imperfections? That’s not damage. That’s soul.

Circular by design

I spent two decades inside the apparel industry. I’ve seen how much gets made, and how much of it never gets worn. North & Knox works the other way around.

Most of my bags begin as a tote that already exists. Canvas that has already proven it can last gets a second life instead of sitting forgotten in a closet. Nothing here is made to sit in a warehouse. Every piece is made for the person who will carry it, and built to be carried for years, not a season.

That’s what circular fashion means to me. Not a label. A way of making.

Every piece tells a story

Sometimes the story starts with a tote you’ve carried for years. Sometimes it starts with an idea, and we create something completely new. Either way, the piece that leaves my studio carries a story: the one it arrived with, or the one you’re about to give it.

My favorite bag is the second Belted Tote I ever made. I made it big. It’s tattered, it’s been marked up, it’s been power-washed, and I love it. Every mark on it is somewhere it’s been: traveling, family trips, carried to class. Real life. That’s my story.

What I protect

Some bags can’t be replaced. The tote that belonged to your mom. The one that went to the lake every summer. When you trust me with something like that, I treat it that way.

Before anything happens, we talk. I want to know whose it was and what matters most to you about it. Nothing gets washed, cut, or changed until we’ve decided together. The initials, the marks, the faded spots are part of its story, and I keep as much of that as I can.

Your keepsake comes back as something you’ll carry again, still holding everything it did when it arrived.

North & Knox is made in my studio, by my hands, one bag at a time. No outsourcing. No factory. Every bag is cut, sewn, and finished by me. I’m not chasing scale. I’m making bags that matter. Bags you’ll carry for years, that feel like yours from day one, that hold up to real life.

Carry it to brunch. Carry it down a waterfront dock, or shopping in Nantucket in late spring. That’s what it’s made for.
